Many LED lighting brands like Osram Sylvania, Cree, IKEA, etc. have made large number of recalls in US and Canada in 2015, and out of these LED T8 tube lights top the list in North America in 2015, says an article by LEDinside. LEDinside took a closer look into these recalls trends, and found that even large LED lighting brands occasional churn out faulty products. According to the article, about 761,500 LED T8 tube lights were recalled in the US and Canada in 2015. However, in 2014, LED emergency lights and wall mounted lights consists the recalls. In August 2015, Cree had to recall a large number of LED tube lights that were manufactured in China. This consisted of about 93.43% of the tube light recalled this year. The reason for recalled of these LED tube lights were due to burn hazard concerns. LED lighting products manufactured in China still have the highest recall rates. Osram Sylvania had also recalled 50,000 LED tube lights manufactured by a Korean OEM due to burn hazard concerns. All these recalls happened due to concerns of electric shock and burn hazards, as LED tube lights are usually used in factories and industrial units. “Most of these recalls probably occurred because the products did not meet The DesignLights Consortium (DLC) stringent product lifetime, electrical safety, and thermal resistance tests,” said the LEDinside article.
